Tuna Egg Salad is the best of both worlds. It’s a creamy egg salad sandwich combined with a classic tuna salad sandwich! This easy recipe transforms everyday staples into a tasty, satisfying meal, perfect for a picnic or quick lunch.

A little crunch and a mustardy bite edged with sweet relish lift this simple salad out of the ordinary. Serve with fruit kabobs, coleslaw or pasta salad for a delicious picnic everyone will love.

What’s in Tuna Egg Salad?

This recipe is pretty much a mashup of two lunch time favorites: classic tuna salad and a creamy egg salad. The best of both worlds in one bite!

What I love about tuna salad with egg is that I almost always have all the ingredients on hand. Here’s your Chance to get creative; try sprinkling in some herbs, such as fresh or dried thyme leaves, dill weed, Old Bay seasoning or black pepper.

How to Tell if Eggs are Fresh

To tell if eggs in the shell are fresh, use the float test:

  • Place eggs in the shell in a pot or bowl of water. Fresh eggs sink to the bottom. Older eggs may stand up in the water, but not float. These are still safe to eat. Eggs that float should be discarded.
  • Peeled Hard-boiled eggs, whether whole or in salads, can keep in the refrigerator for only about 3-4 days.

Did you know? Eggs and many fresh products Enjoy milk are still safe and wholesome after the “sell-by date” stamped on the container. Some states Require these stamps, while others don’t, so you might not see a date. To save money and avoid waste, use the “sell by” or “expiration” date on your packages as a guideline.

The United States Department of Agriculture advises that eggs in the shell can keep for three to five weeks after the purchase date. They should always be stored inside the carton and not on the door.

Easy Hard-Boiled Eggs

Hard boiled eggs are easy to make and are perfect in this salad! You can make Difficult boiled eggs in the Instant Pot or traditional Difficult boiled eggs on the stove top.

To Make Ahead

This is an ideal recipe to make in advance for quick lunches and snacks. Prep as directed and store tightly covered in the fridge and consume within 3 – 4 days. This recipe doesn’t freeze well.

This unfussy comfort dish is ever-so-accommodating. Use it as the basis for a tuna melt or serve in one of these fun variations:

  • 3 eggs Difficult boiled and cooled
  • 6 ounces tuna drained
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 rib celery finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish or chopped dill pickle
  • salt & pepper to taste


  • Cut eggs in half. Remove yolks and chop whites.
  • Mash yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, relish and salt & pepper to taste.
  • Add remaining ingredients and stir well.
  • Serve on bread or over lettuce.
