Zesty Homemade Chili Sauce Dips and Dressings

Chili Sauce is sweet and zesty (not spicy), Like an extra zesty version of ketchup!

It is a simple condiment, great as a meatloaf topping, served over burgers or used on ribs. It’s great with dishes all across the culinary map.

What is Chili Sauce?

  • Chili sauce is basically a zesty version of ketchup and can be purchased online or in grocery stores.
  • This sauce is not spicy but full of zesty and tangy flavor with a hint of sweetness.
  • Tomato sauce, brown sugar, and cider vinegar give chili sauce its flavor. Onion flakes, chili powder, and garlic powder round out the flavors.
  • Heinz makes the most popular store-bought brand, but it’s so easy to make at home. This recipe can be adjusted to be as mild or spicy for any use.

How to Use Chili Sauce

  • Mix it into meatloaf or mix it 50/50 with ketchup as a great meatloaf topping or 50/50 with bbq sauce for the best rib sauce.
  • Serve it with burgers, hot dogs, Chili Cheese Dogs or wings.
  •  It’s great for dipping popcorn shrimp or to use when making a quick cocktail sauce.
  • Add extra zip to everything from sloppy joes to spaghetti sauce.
  • Stir it into homemade thousand island dressing or mix with mayonnaise for a french fry sauce.
  • Use it in place of ketchup in Grape Jelly Meatballs.

How to Make Chili Sauce

Chill back and Enjoy how easy it is to make this sauce!

  1. Add all the ingredients to a saucepan.
  2. Simmer until thickened. (As per recipe below)
  3. Remove from heat and season with salt.

How to Store

Store in a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Shake the jar before using.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups tomato sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion flakes
  • 1 Tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
  • Taste and season with additional salt if needed.
  • Cool and refrigerate up to 2 weeks.
